Route

A flat, fast course taking runners on a tour past the York Minster, the city walls and attractions such as Clifford's Tower and the Shambles. Starting and finishing at the Knavesmire, the York 10K is a fantastic challenge for all abilities.

Course breakdown - km by km

0km - 1km - A fast start taking runners along Knavesmire Road past the cheering crowds, before heading out along Campleshon Road and turning north up Bishopthorpe Road.

1-2km - Head towards the city centre along Bishopthorpe Road and diving into the quaint residential streets to head towards the river.

2-3km – After a short section along the river and under the city walls, the route takes runners back out through the city walls along Nunnery Lane.

3-4km - Passing back through the city walls at the impressive Micklegate Bar towards the first drinks station, the route crosses the river on Bridge Street and turns towards the Minster on Spurriergate.

4-5km - The highlight of the route; runners are cheered through St Helen’s Square and on to Duncombe Place before running along Minster Yard in front of the impressive York Minster.  A real focal point for spectators.

5-6km - Passing the market on Parliament Street before heading past Clifford’s Tower.  Runners will drop on to the waterfront at King’s Staith heading south.

6-7km - A quieter and more peaceful riverside section of the route ahead, into the final push.

7-8km - Continuing along the riverfront before crossing the river on Millennium Bridge to the second drinks station before re-joining Bishopthorpe Road.

8-9km – Continue to the turn outside the front of the old Terry’s Factory, before heading back along Campleshon Road.

9-10km – Participants will then run past York Racecourse's stands, to the second turn in the road before entertainment and accompanying crowds will begin to build on this last stretch, encouraging runners along the finish straight on Knavesmire Road.
