Julia Church previously suffered with sore joints and weight issues and could hardly have imagined that her decision to take up running would take her all over the world and inspire others to pull on their trainers.
But on Sunday 20th October she will line up for the Asda Foundation Yorkshire 10 Mile in York as an experienced runner with 54 half marathons and 7 marathons under her belt.
Julia is aiming to complete the Abbott World Marathon Major six star challenge which features Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York. She hopes to take part in Tokyo next year and complete the challenge with Boston in 2021.
Born in the UK and now living in Australia, Julia is running the 10 Mile while on a visit home to see family. Her sister is running the Yorkshire Marathon.
Julia said: “I haven’t always been a runner, in fact quite the opposite. I began my running journey as a dare in 2012 as I was extremely overweight and suffering with sore joints.
“My first run was to the bottom of the drive way and my first race was the Adelaide City to Bay 12km, which I was challenged to complete in under three hours. I crossed the finish line in 1:36 and I was hooked.
“I started a Facebook and Instagram page called Rubenesque Runner as a way of holding myself accountable for my training but soon found that I was actually inspiring other people just like me to lace up and give it a go.
“To know that you have been responsible for helping someone positively change their lifestyle is one of the greatest feelings and my running tribe is incredibly important to me.
“I have continued to grow my love for running and became a co-ED of our local parkrun. I now have a running tribe, which I absolutely love, called the RIOT runners! I received a finalist award for sports volunteer of the year last year and I love nothing more than motivating and inspiring other runners along the way.
“We have raised thousands of dollars for Ronald McDonald House Charities while running our Abbott WMM challenge and I love paying back into the community while doing something I love.”
