Setting off from The Headrow, the course turns left into New Briggate and out of the city centre towards Meanwood. Then it's up Stonegate Road and left on to the Ring Road. An easy stretch down Hawksworth Road before, at around the 9-mile mark, a left on to Abbey Road and the run for home along Kirkstall Road and back into the city centre.
The route goes past the historic Town Hall before taking a left into Cookridge Street, past the Raddison Hotel and on to the finish line.
John, 84, from Garforth, Leeds, was the oldest competitor in the Leeds Half Marathon in 2013. John is a veteran of some 44 marathons and has run the Leeds Half about 14 times. He took up running when he was 53 after he was diagnosed with throat cancer. Three decades on, he’s still going and has no plans to quit yet. He finished the 2013 Leeds Half Marathon in 2hrs 17mins 17secs and said: “It was brilliant. I’m quite pleased with that.”
