Actor George Rainsford – Ethan Hardy in BBC Television’s Casualty – returned to his Yorkshire roots to take part in the Plusnet Leeds Half Marathon.
Huddersfield-born George, 33, who has also starred in BBC’s Call The Midwife, was no stranger to long-distance running, having completed the London Marathon in 2011 and four other marathons before his ‘homecoming’ run in Leeds.
He said: “In a mass participation event like the Leeds Half, it is always inspiring to see so many people taking on the challenge for so many excellent charities.”
John, 84, from Garforth, Leeds, was the oldest competitor in the Leeds Half Marathon in 2013. John is a veteran of some 44 marathons and has run the Leeds Half about 14 times. He took up running when he was 53 after he was diagnosed with throat cancer. Three decades on, he’s still going and has no plans to quit yet. He finished the 2013 Leeds Half Marathon in 2hrs 17mins 17secs and said: “It was brilliant. I’m quite pleased with that.”
