Janie all set for 10K challenge in memory of her best friend

Janie Green is preparing to make her 10K debut in memory of her best friend who collapsed and died in front of her just six months ago.

Janie, 36, who lives in Outwell, Wisbech, will join over 2,000 other runners on the start line of the Asda Foundation Grand East Anglia Run in King’s Lynn on Sunday 30th April.

She was left devastated in September last year when her best friend, Trevor Finch, 57, who suffered from a heart condition, died in front of her. Janie is taking on the challenge to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

She said: “We had been to an auction in Spalding and had returned to King’s Lynn. John was talking to my younger sister when he just fell backwards. He had suffered similar collapses before but this time we couldn’t resuscitate him.

“He was my best friend and I and taking part in the run because I want to do something to help people with similar problems to John.”

Just over a year before John’s death, Janie’s father died of brain cancer and her brother-in-law Tony Watson and his son, Mark, have also signed up for the run and will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Janie said: “Our fundraising is going well and we are looking forward to the event.

“This will be my first 10K and the training is going well. We run every other night and are steadily building up the miles. I am enjoying the running and it’s helping me to get fitter.”
