A small army of dedicated volunteers will be required to help make this an event to remember. Help will be required to organise the competitors as they gather to begin the race and again at the end when they finish, not to mention the 10k in between! In addition the crowds of spectators will also need to be managed.
Volunteer roles will include:
Pre-Race Volunteers – 11,000 competitors requires a lot of organisation and volunteers will be invaluable in helping to direct and advise participants and to take care of baggage.
Race Marshall Volunteers – Throughout the course marshals will be needed to manage the crowds of spectators and to guide the runners through the streets of Leeds. They will also be on hand to help any runners experiencing difficulty.
Water Station Volunteers - Those competing will consume thousands of bottles of water from water stations along the route and at the end. Each station will be staffed by a team of volunteers to hand out the drinks.
First Aid - Volunteers from St John Ambulance will join us on the day to provide medical and first aid cover, helping to treat problems like skin chaffing, muscle strain and dehydration.
End of Race Volunteers – Volunteers will be on hand to congratulate participants on the completion of the race and give any assistance required. They will also ensure finishers move efficiently through the finish area receiving their mementoes etc. to be reunited with the baggage and then on to be reunited with their very proud family and friends.
