Some 4,000 runners took part in the York 10K, which started and finished in glorious sunshine at York race course. They were cheered around the city centre course by thousands of spectators.
The 2009 York 10K was started by former Olympic athlete Steve Cram – whose son Marcus finished the race in second place - and BBC Look North Presenter Harry Gration.
The Jane Tomlinson’s York 10K team would like to thank the City of York Council, Morrison Utility Services and Lucozade, BBC Radio York, and The Press, and all the volunteers for their ongoing support, without which it would not have been possible to stage the event.

We're in the Army Now
WITH just over three weeks to go to the inaugural Jane Tomlinson’s York 10K, soldiers from the Army Foundation College, Harrogate have been putting Mike Tomlinson and BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration through their paces.
A team of 40 junior soldiers from 27 Platoon Alamein Company will be running on August 2nd to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund.
Platoon Sergeant Colin Kingshott said: “All the platoons have to fund raise during the year but we are way ahead of the field and have already raised £3,000 with more to come in. We’ve smashed our original £500 target.
Sgt Kingshott will be hoping to beat the junior soldiers home on race day in an impressive time of under 33 minutes.
Junior Soldier Angus Hilsley said: “We’ve been doing training runs every night plus our five PT sessions a week so we’ve all got a lot fitter. Everyone is going to try and get back in under 40 minutes on August 2.”
A number of permanent staff from the Army Foundation College will also be running the York 10K.
Harry Gration, who will also be among the 5,000 runners on August 2nd, said: “We’ve certainly been put through our paces this morning; this lot are as fit as fiddles. I’m really looking forward to the York 10K. I ran the Leeds 10K a few weeks ago and we had a fantastic day, but I have to say because I live in York, the York run really will be a special day.
“But one thing I would add is that we really do still need volunteers to help on the day. We’ve got plenty of runners but I would urge the people of York to come forward to volunteer to help us on August 2.”
Mike Tomlinson said: “It’s fantastic to have such a big team from the Army Foundation College running on August 2. It’s been hard work training with them this morning. They are a great set of lads and it’s a real credit to the staff and to their training that they are all going to run that quickly.”
Volunteers are needed on the day to help runners before and after the event, to man water stations and help marshal the run.
