Macmillan Cancer Support exists to improve the lives of people living with cancer and their families and carers. 1 in 3 of us will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lives and we are all affected. We provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care. We are a source of support. We are a force for change. We are Macmillan!
“I loved being part of an event where thousands of people are clapping and cheering for Jane Tomlinson, who was simply a housewife and mother who just wanted to make a difference for people. It really brought home how much she did for us all.”
“I loved the fantastic support and huge cheering crowds, the atmosphere of the event and the buzz I felt throughout the race. Being part of Team Macmillan and knowing the difference the sponsorship will make made it all worthwhile.”
“It was a very humbling and enjoyable experience sharing the run with such a diverse group of runners with varied abilities”

Jane Tomlinson was a vice president of Sparks, a charity dedicated to funding cutting edge paediatric medical research. Its mission: To help all babies to be born healthy and stay healthy Sparks is a rarity, as it isn’t a single cause charity. Childhood cancers, childhood arthritis, meningitis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and all the dangers associated with premature birth are just a few areas where pioneering research funded by Sparks is making a real difference.
“Meeting Jane was a humbling experience and she was a brilliant vice-president of Sparks as well as the biggest individual fundraiser in the charity’s history, raising in excess of £400,000 to date.
“As a mother and Sparks president, I’m only too aware of the debt the charity owes Jane and her family. Let’s not forget that her husband Mike and her children did so much to support her during her long illness as well as her defiant sporting challenges in the cause of charity despite of her cancer.
“I also appreciate that Jane’s role as both a mum and a paediatric radiographer gave her a special rapport with the pioneering work Sparks funds across the whole spectrum of paediatric illness, including devastating childhood cancers like leukaemia and neuroblastoma.”
Sports Presenter Gabby Logan, co-president of Sparks.
