Marston's Take on the Sheffield Half Marathon Team Challenge fuelled by Erdinger Alkoholfrei!

"The Team Challenge is an excellent way of promoting team bonding across areas of the business who don’t work together on a daily basis and with all levels of fitness in the team it has proved to be quite a talking point in meetings"

Sunday 8th April 2018 saw the first ever Team Challenge take place alongside the hugely popular Sheffield Half Marathon.

After running a challenging half marathon (including THAT hill), we all want an ice cold, refreshing drink... at the Sheffield Half Marathon we are lucky enough to work with Erdinger, who are on hand at the finish line to provide all of our runners with a well earned ERDINGER Alkoholfrei!

ERDINGER Alkoholfrei were thrilled to be invited to enter the Sheffield Half Marathon Team Challenge.  We spoke to our friends at Marston’s Beer, as we were going to be too busy serving all the runners at the finish line, and they snapped up the offer! The team, who were easy to spot in ERDINGER Alkoholfrei kit, were made up of runners of all abilities from all areas of the business, including a director of sales, marketing, IT department and customer service and was led by James.  He had organised a couple of events in the past and was looking to partner with ERDINGER Alkoholfrei after he visited the brewery in Germany. James learnt about the isotonic benefits of ERDINGER Alkoholfrei on the trip and wanted to reap the rewards for himself and his team and this challenge came just at the right time!

The Team Challenge is an excellent way of promoting team bonding across areas of the business who don’t work together on a daily basis and with all levels of fitness in the team it has proved to be quite a talking point in meetings. Some of the team participate in frequent marathons and running events and then there are others who are totally new to running, with the Asda Foundation Sheffield Half Marathon being their first ever half marathon including James! And of course, they have all benefited from having the best recovery drink at the end of their training runs. We think James sums it up perfectly, “ERDINGER Alkoholfrei has certainly helped make the training easier. We find it gives us that extra boost before setting off for a run and also at the end of the run when it replenishes all of the energy that we have burnt!”

And as for race day, everyone loved it! For the people who were running their first half marathon, including James, they were all chuffed to finish and got a massive buzz from doing so. So much in fact that they are now looking at other half marathon events this year that they can race in! The first few days following the race legs were a bit sore and walking was a challenge but this is all part of the fun, apparently. A couple of the team were frequent runners and managed to put in good times, well under the 2 hour mark with our final members finishing in 2hr 30min, but everyone was happy to see the back of the big hill after the 6th mile!

The thing that blew the whole team away was the support and atmosphere on the route.  Especially the families that had made the effort to get out and support everyone and provide much need supplies, jelly babies and oranges were the favourite! The last 3km was tough but the amount of people towards the finishing line really helped everyone get across the line. Thank you Sheffield for a fantastic day!
