Everybody is talking about the triathlon and feeling inspired to take on a challenge! What's left for those not quite ready to run, swim and cycle all that way?
Feeling inspired by the Leeds Triathlon but not quite ready to run, swim and cycle all that way? That's understandable. I'm not a super human either. Don't worry, you can still immerse yourself in the electric sporting atmosphere that we felt on Sunday at the Asda Foundation Leeds 10K.
Leeds is a great sporting city with the most passionate sports fanatics/supporters/crazy-shouty-people - call them what you will - in the UK! There’s no doubt that running through the heart of this great city is a wonderful way create your own personal sporting triumph, rather than watching some South African hog all the glory.
It’s a humbling treat to be stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the many thousands of inspirational runners taking on the Leeds 10K. Lining up on the Vicar Lane start line creates a memory to savor as you prepare to take your first steps in one of the showpiece events on Yorkshire’s running calendar.
And there’s still time for you to sign up. The lighter nights provide the perfect opportunity to embark on a small training regime that suits you, improves your fitness and leaves you ready to experience the fantastic atmosphere of Jane Tomlinson’s original legacy run.
The largely flat course makes it an event suitable for all abilities, from those chasing a pb to those simply aiming to get round. Just don't take the advice of the locals!
In fact the slower you go the more time you’ll have to appreciate some of the city’s landmarks as you follow a route that takes in the historic Kirkgate Market; Cuthbert Brodrick-designed Corn Exchange opened in 1864; City Square with Mill Hill Chapel where Joseph Priestley, who discovered oxygen, used to preach; the Kirkstall Road studios of ITV Yorkshire, broadcasting in the city for 50 years and finally ends up in the shadow of another Cuthbert Brodrick masterpiece – the Town Hall opened by Queen Victoria in 1858.
Whether you’re walking or running, you’ll be cheered around the course all the way to the finish line.
Believe in yourself, we certainly do! Sign up today here.
