Held alongside the Asda Foundation Sheffield Half Marathon on Sunday 8th April 2018, the Sheffield Half Marathon Team Challenge invites teams to pull on their running gear, tie up those laces, and take on the challenge of running, jogging or walking a half marathon. Open to companies, sports clubs, organisations and groups of friends, it brings some friendly team rivalry to the event.
A fantastic opportunity to boost team morale, improve your company’s team work and co-operation, not to mention the health & fitness benefits associated. You could fulfil your Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives or even just take part for fun!
We have been speaking to one of the teams in Sheffield to find out why they have chosen to take part in the Team Challenge this year…
We are a group of running enthusiasts from Orchid Orthopedic Solutions Sheffield who are looking for a challenge while at the same time raising money for a worthwhile cause.
The challenge in this case is the demanding Sheffield Half Marathon.
The worthwhile cause is Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity
Orchid's stated core purpose is to "provide opportunity for people to lead a better life" and while our company seeks to achieve that by that by manufacturing orthopaedic implants and instruments we feel that supporting the great work Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity does dovetails nicely with that aim.
We are a mix of ages and abilities, but we all enjoy running, and are determined to finish this demanding race.
It would really encourage us to keep going if we knew our efforts were being rewarded by friends and colleagues, family and even virtual strangers sponsoring us to raise money for Weston Park's work”
"Being a resident of Sheffield for a number of years it was time to test the hills - I have put myself through the pain in other places but never in the home city!
I’ve just come back from injury and the Sheffield Half Marathon came at a perfect time to create a goal to return to fitness.
I’m happy to run for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity as raising funds towards cancer has always been an active task of mine having raised money in the he past for Macmillan. However the local connection would mean you could see more direct benefits".
“A few years ago I was told that I wouldn’t be able to walk or run. At that moment I wanted to prove to the whole world that I was not going to just give up and that one day I would run a marathon.
So running the Sheffield Half Marathon is part of my dream coming true!
Working at Orchid has helped me to keep motivated to stay fit and look after my own and other people’s health. That’s why I would like to raise money for this good cause.
I love training for my first Half Marathon and I am sure it is going to be good fun.”
“At 57 I am the old man of the team, so will probably be at the rear urging the rest of the team to keep going!
I ran the Sheffield Half Marathon last year on what seemed to be the hottest day of the year, so know full well what to expect – so why would I want to do it again?
Well like Ollie, I have raised money for the bigger charities in the past – National Autistic Society, Macmillan, Marie Curie, but I thought this time a Sheffield based race should be used to support a Sheffield based charity – hence our team is running for Weston Park Cancer Charity."
Like Grazina, do you have the dream of one day completing a marathon? Maybe you’re like Paul and you want to prove that age is just a number? Or like Ollie, do you want to improve your fitness?
