For over 40 years Candlelighters has supported children with cancer, and their families, throughout Yorkshire. They support families financially, provide holidays and fund staff and equipment at Leeds Children’s Hospital. Their Family Support Centre offers a variety of therapies as well as support groups to all family members.

Aiming to recovery from a variety of mental health problem helping our service users achieve outcomes that will progress them towards social inclusion and integration in mainstream activity.
The aim of Martin House is to provide family led care for children with life shortening conditions. It is a place where children, young people and their families can come to stay from time to time along their journey and find support, rest and practical help.
St Leonard’s Hospice is an independent charity, providing specialist palliative care and support for local people with life limiting illnesses. We have an In-patient Unit, Sunflower Centre and Hospice@Home service. In this relaxed and friendly environment, every patient is recognised and treated as an individual. With our support patients are able to enjoy the best possible quality of life. Our care also extends to support families and carers.
We provide practical help and support for patients and their families living with Cancer in York and North Yorkshire and we fund vital research and education to prevent and cure cancer in the future.
The Island offers support to 8 – 13 year-olds in York who may be struggling to cope at home, at school, or in the wider community, or who are experiencing difficult transitions in their lives. The Island Links young people with a volunteer mentor who support them too develop supportive, ongoing relationships, whilst also providing them with the undivided attention and ‘islands of space and time’ they need to increase their confidence and self-esteem, participate in worthwhile recreational activities, and move forward in their lives.
