Employees at MKM will be aiming for victory when the building supplies firm goes toe to toe with more than 50 other local companies in this year’s KC Hull 10K Corporate Challenge.
The 2015 event, which is being held on Sunday 14th June, has attracted a record number of entrants with over 480 runners from local businesses set to battle it out for the title of ‘fastest firm’.
MKM is a long-standing supporter of the Corporate Challenge having entered teams every year since its inception in 2010. Established and based in Hull, MKM is the UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant with 42 branches across England and Scotland.
Thirty of MKM’s employees will be taking to the streets of Hull for the Corporate Challenge, among them Kristy Snow, who said:
“It is great to be part of something Jane Tomlinson set up. She was such an inspirational woman and her memory lives on through these events. It’s rewarding to know a large amount of money is still being raised today for her charity.
“I have taken part in a few of the Jane Tomlinson 10K Corporate Challenges and you just can’t beat the atmosphere you experience on the day. So many people turn up to support the event, cheering everyone on and they give you the push you need, especially when you hit the 7km point and your legs start to give up!
“It’s nice to speak to other employees at work who are taking part and find out how their training is going. It’s also good for a bit of competition between each other, battling to see who’s going to be the fastest male or female in our group. I’m so glad to be taking part again this year and hope to do so for many years to come.”
Brendon Smurthwaite, KC’s Community Coordinator, added: “The Corporate Challenge is a very popular event and to have over 470 runners competing this year is great news.
“Some businesses are joining in for the first time whilst others, like MKM, have been involved every year and provide the foundation the challenge is built upon. It’s a terrific event and one KC is delighted to be part of.”
