It is with great regret that the Lincoln Mini and Junior Run due to take place today Saturday 16th April has been cancelled due to bad weather conditions and concerns over runner safety.
The cancellation of today’s event followed advice from our expert health and safety consultant from Capita.
The Event Safety Officer from Capita said: “Unfortunately we had to take the decision to cancel today's Mini and Junior run due to the snowy conditions, which created extremely slippery conditions under foot.
“On inspection of the course, which is run on both track and grass, we found unsafe conditions for children to run on.
“This combined with the wind chill factor of -3 degrees made the conditions unsuitable for an event of this kind to proceed.”
Following the initial inspection, Run For All and Capita continued to monitor conditions throughout the morning. At the time when the event was due to start, while some of the snow had begun to melt, it was deemed still too slippery, and potentially dangerous, for children to run.
Run For All would like to apologise to all runners and spectators for the disappointment and inconvenience caused by today’s cancellation.
We really do appreciate the effort the youngsters have put in to their training and fundraising and understand they will have been disappointed not to be able to take part.
However, it should be stressed that today’s circumstances were entirely beyond our control.
The City of LIncoln 10K which is due to take place tomorrow is unaffected and will go ahead as planned.
