Organisers of the all-new Asda Foundation Bury 10K and Arena Group Bury Family Fun Run are seeking volunteers to help ensure the runners and spectators have a safe and enjoyable time.
Over 1,000 runners, joggers and walkers are set to take to the streets of Bury on Sunday 18th September for the debut of this exciting new event.
Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles including marshalling, helping out at the start and finish and along the route, at drink stations, at the baggage store, and to hand the runners their hard-earned medals and goody bags.
The Bury 10K is being organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All in partnership with I Will If You Will (IWIYW), a fitness movement in Bury that’s helping women, girls and their families to be more active, more often. IWIYW is delivered by Bury Council with National Lottery funding form Sport England.
Charlie Tatman, Run For All Events Manager, said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation and we could not put on our runs without them.
“I know our volunteers find it really rewarding to help at events that support so many good causes. The effort they put in and the super atmosphere they help create is greatly appreciated by all the runners.
“Anyone who can spare us a few hours on Sunday September 18th will be warmly welcomed.”
Councillor Catherine Preston, Deputy Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said “Excitement is really building now that we are in the run up to this inaugural event in Bury. Lots of people have registered to give it a go, me included! And it’s not too late for others to put themselves forward, either to take part in the 10k or the shorter family fun run.
If you don’t want to join in with the run you needn’t miss out. You can still be an important part of this momentus occasion by supporting your community and volunteering instead.”
Volunteers for the Bury 10K should be aged 16 or over, although youngsters aged 14 and 15 can help out if supervised by an adult who is also registered to volunteer.
Online registration for groups and individual volunteers is now open. Groups are particularly welcomed, whether it is a group of friends or family, a Scout or Girl Guide group or a sports club.
