Boost for charities as thousands put their laces through their paces at the Nottingham 10K

The second Asda Foundation Nottingham 10K was today hailed a huge success as thousands of runners crossed the finish line!

Enthusiastic crowds cheered the runners as they made their way around the new route, which started and finished at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground.

From the stadium the participants headed through the scenic Lady Bay area. They then travelled on Holme Pierrepont Country Park, home to the National Watersports Centre, where they took a lap of the Regatta Lake, before heading for home and the grand finish back at the City Ground.

First across the finish line was Lucian Allison in a time of 31mins 52secs. Adrian Mussett took second place in 32mins 15secs with Callum Elson in third in 32mins 35secs.

Amy Whitehead was the first woman home in 35mins 39secs followed Steph Burns who clocked 37mins 26secs for second spot and Louise Read who took third in 41mins 26secs.

The winning wheelchair athlete was Helen Gilham in a time of 47mins 11secs.

A new feature of this year’s event was the Charity Challenge, in which teams competed for a £500 boost to their fundraising total.

Part of the popular Asda Foundation 10K series, the event is organised by Run For All and forms part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, an inspirational fundraiser who completed a series of gruelling challenges to raise nearly £2m despite battling incurable cancer.

Julie Ward, Asda Foundation Senior Manager, said: “Huge congratulations to everyone who took part in today’s Asda Foundation Nottingham 10K, helping it to build on the success of last year’s debut event.

“It was inspiring to see so many people running for some wonderful charities.”
