John Offord is preparing to tackle his first half marathon to raise money for mental health charity Mind and in memory of his brother, Anthony Offord.
John, of Grenoside, Sheffield, will join thousands of runners on the start line of the Asda Foundation Sheffield Half Marathon on Sunday 8th April.
Anthony, 35, who suffered with mental health problems, collapsed at a friend’s flat in Sheffield in April 2013.
On his decision to run in aid of Mind, John said: “Mental health in the UK is still woefully underfunded – and psychological conditions are not treated as seriously as physical ones.
“It’s for this reason I’ve decided to run for my first ever half marathon, to raise awareness of the fact that no one has to face a mental health problem alone.
“I’m really nervous about what I’ve got myself in for, but I’ve already started training and managed to run 5 miles at the start of the week.”
