New partnership adds up for York 10K

BHP Chartered Accountants' partnership with York 10K 2018 announced.

The organisers of the York 10K have announced a new partnership with BHP Chartered Accountants.

Next month’s run on Sunday 5th August marks the 10th anniversary of an event that, since its launch, has grown into one of the region’s biggest charity road races.

The firm will sponsor the VIP area at this year’s event in the Ebor Stand at York Racecourse. Businesses and VIPs in the area will join BHP Chartered Accountants on race day to enjoy pre and post-race refreshments to help make their race day experience a special one. Those joining a 41 strong BHP team will be runners from various companies including A B Graphic International and Langley Solicitors.

In 2019, BHP, Yorkshire’s largest independent firm of chartered accountants will sponsor the event’s corporate challenge, which is a new feature of the 10K next year. The challenge is a race within a race in which companies compete for the title of fastest firm in the race.

The route has proven extremely popular with runners and often lead the 10K to be hailed as one of the most beautiful city runs in the UK. It involves over 5000 runners from the local area and further afield, a Mini and Junior Run and now some added local business competition.

Organised by not-for-profit company Run For All, the York 10K is one of the region’s biggest charity road runs and forms part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who while battling terminal cancer completed a series of gruelling challenges to raise £1.85m for charity.

BHP’s involvement with the 10K is the firm’s latest charitable initiative. In 2017 staff raised over £27,000 by taking part in a series of fundraising efforts for over 50 charities.

Jane Marshall, Partner and Head of Charities at BHP, which has offices in York, said: “We are delighted to be associated with such a popular event as the York 10K, which does so much to support the work of some excellent charities. We have a large charity specialist offering in the York area as well as services such as Tax Advisory, Corporate Finance and Forensics, therefore sponsoring this event is a perfect fit.”

Run For All’s Sponsorship and Corporate executive, Hettie Barker said: “We are extremely grateful to BHP for their support and look forward to working with them to further improve an event that already enjoys a fine reputation.”

Over the years a total of more than 50,000 people have entered the York 10K, raising over £2.5m for a host of good causes both big and small.
