Greenhill Primary School scooped up the top prize at the Arena Group Leeds Mini and Junior runs as youngsters aged 3 to 15 pulled on their trainers to compete in the popular event on Saturday 7th July.

Runners aged 3 to 8 tackled a 1.5K course, whilst those aged 9 and above enjoyed a 2.5K course on a sun-kissed day at the John Charles Centre for Sport.

The event kicked off a weekend of running in Leeds and took place the day before the Asda Foundation Leeds 10K, which attracted over 7000 runners and raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity on Sunday 8th July.

Elliott’s Footprint, the official partner charity of the Arena Group Leeds Mini and Junior runs, were handed a huge fundraising boost. This will help them continue to support families going through a child bereavement.

In the day's school competition, many local schools vied to have the most runners competing in both runs, relative to their school’s size.

Ken Jennings, acting Headteacher at Greenhill Primary School, said: “The Arena Group Leeds Mini and Junior Run was great fun, it provided a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience the enjoyment of a mass participation event. We are grateful to Run For All for organising the event and glad we could support the charity Elliott’s Footprint.”

Lydia Joyce of Arena Group, who presented the prizes and trophies on the day, said: "Congratulations to Greenhill Primary School and to all the youngsters who entered the mini and junior runs. We are delighted to sponsor an event which encourages children to be more active and provides them with an opportunity to support some excellent local causes.

“Using the John Charles Centre for Sport track and stadium for the young runners and their supporters created a fantastic atmosphere, and kicked off a great weekend in the city.”

The Asda Foundation Leeds 10K and the Arena Group Mini and Junior Runs are organised by Run For All and form part of the lasting legacy of the late inspirational Jane Tomlinson CBE, who founded the Leeds 10K in 2007 shortly before her untimely death.

Next up on the Run For All calendar for mini and junior runners will be the Arena Group York Mini and Juniors on Sunday 5th August.
