Runners of Derby are prepared to set off on a half marathon adventure this Sunday 3rd June.
Thousands of runners are itching to set foot on the Asda Foundation Derby Half Marathon this Sunday 3rd June 2018.
The run is expected to attract 4000 runners to Derby and raise thousands of pounds for a number of deserving charitable causes.
This year will be the first time that the not-for-profit organisation, Run For All, have hosted the popular Derby Half Marathon - formerly known as Ramathon.
Run For All is part of the lasting legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson CBE, who raised almost £2m for charity through a series of endurance challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.
The run will start and finish at the atmospheric Pride Park stadium – home of Derby County Football Club.
A Derby County Football Club spokesman said: “We are extremely excited for the Asda Foundation Derby Half Marathon. It’s great that Run For All have got behind this event and we can’t wait to get going.”
As in previous years, the half marathon will leave Pride Park Stadium and head into city centre passing the historic Market Place and towering Cathedral of All Saints. The stunning Elvaston Castle County Park will also remain a key feature of the route.
Run For All are keen to ensure that they build on the success of the Ramathon legacy with the 2018 Asda Foundation Derby Half Marathon.
Head of Events at Run For All, Tristan Batley-Kyle, said: “We are delighted to be given the opportunity to take on the running of such an excellent event.
“We are really excited to make this year’s Asda Foundation Derby Half Marathon a huge success.”
The Asda Foundation Derby Half Marathon became a new addition to the Asda Foundation Series in 2018.
Mandy Rivett, Asda Foundation Coordinator, said: “We’re thrilled that Derby Half Marathon has become a part of our Asda Foundation Series and can’t wait for it to get started. We hope everyone has a great day and want to thank all the runners taking part as they will be raising lots of money for some truly deserving causes.”
Runners are invited to run for the event’s partner charities the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Derby Hospitals Charity, Canaan Trust and Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.
Jane Tomlinson Appeal Fundraising and Events Assistant Jenny Sellers said: “We’re really excited to be a partner charity for the new Asda Foundation Derby Half Marathon and we’re really looking forward to welcoming our fantastic Appeal Team on Sunday 3rd June.”
This year’s event will feature the Timms Solicitors Family Fun Run. The fun run will raise money for Sporting Communities who provide a number of sporting and recreational activities for the local community.
Fiona Moffat, Managing Partner at Timms Solicitors, said: “We are so pleased that we can support this great event! The Family Fun Run is sure to add a special family feel good factor to the day and raise important money for a worthy cause.”
