Five-Marathon-Nicola feels good running for charity

Cancer survivor Nicola will officially start the Arena Group Family Fun Run after completing her 10K on Sunday in preparation for marathon number three in her charity challenge.

Nicola Stewart, 40, from Tottington, is set to celebrate her discharge from hospital in style by keeping fit, competing in five marathons and officially starting the 2018 Arena Group Bury Family Fun Run with her family.

Having already completed the Seville Marathon and London Marathon earlier this year, Nicola’s five marathon challenge is well underway.

In preparation for her third marathon, the Loch Ness Marathon, Nicola will take on two races this Sunday, the Asda Foundation Bury 10K and the Arena Group Family Fun Run – which she will officially start with her family.

Nicola will be fundraising at the 10K and Family Fun Run for The Christie Charitable Fund which helps support the hospital where she received successful treatment for cervical cancer in 2013 whilst pregnant with her third child, Eliza. She also attended regular check-ups at the hospital for the following five years.

The fundraising mother of three will be joined by all of her children on Sunday - James, Maisie and Eliza. The family will first support mum in the 10K, before officially starting and competing in the Bury Family Fun Run together.

Speaking to Run For All, Nicola said: “James, Maisie and Eliza all enjoy running and I like to remind them of the importance of keeping fit. I was a keen runner before I got ill, during treatment and haven’t stopped since.

“They are raising money for The Christie Charitable Fund with me and are close to completing a 20-mile running challenge from the summer.”

Since attending her final check-up in June, Nicola has been keen to encourage people to improve their fitness, celebrate their good health and raise money for The Christie.

“I have been encouraging as many people as I can to do something which improves their fitness whilst they raise money for The Christie too” said Nicola.

“On Sunday we have lots of runners joining us at both the 10k and the Family Fun Run - our team is called Nicola’s Christie Soldiers.

“It’s great to see so many people support this wonderful cause and we can’t thank everyone enough.”

You can support Nicola’s Christie Soldiers via their Just Giving page.

Runners will also be able to run for fun, another charity close to their heart, or the official partner charity of the Arena Group Family Fun Run - Forget me not children's hospice.

The popular charity fun run has now sold out, however, runners are still able to sign up for the Asda Foundation Bury 10K until 12pm tonight.
