Leeds Mind and York Mind will come together for the 2019 Asda Foundation Yorkshire Marathon to raise funds for their vital services across the two cities.
1 in 4 people will experience mental ill-health in any given year. Both Leeds Mind and York Mind work hard to deliver face to face services to support these people in the Yorkshire area.
Many people will already be familiar with the name MIND, but not everyone will know of the ways Mind works to support people experiencing mental ill-health.
On a national-scale, Mind provide telephone, online and campaigning support across the country.
Alongside this, Mind works in partnership with a network of local Minds based within towns and cities. These local Minds deliver vital face-to-face mental health support. So if you have ever received in-person help from Mind, it is very likely that you will have visited your local Mind.
Whilst all local Minds share the same recognisable brand identity and have a shared vision of better mental health, it is important to know that each local Mind is an independent charity.
Local Minds are responsible for raising and spending their own money. Because they understand the unique needs of their community, they can tailor their services to match.
Across Leeds Mind and York Mind, some of the things you’ll find to help are: talking therapies, counselling, peer support, advocacy, mental health & well-being activities, mental health training, and employment support.
2019 sees the first time that Leeds Mind and York Mind have partnered to raise funds for their vital face to face services.
Together, they are looking forward to the euphoria of the Asda Foundation Yorkshire Marathon - supporting their runners to train and fundraise as much as they feel able to - and ultimately, helping many more people get the life-changing help they need, when they need it.
Holly Bilton, Fundraising Manager at York Mind said:
“Being a partner charity (along with Leeds Mind) of the Yorkshire Marathon is an exciting new opportunity for us. Over the last few years, we have been helping people from across the region to set their own fundraising and training goals at the Run For All York 10k, and we’ve loved seeing all of those tired and happy faces at the end of their journeys! We can’t wait to help our Yorkshire Marathon runners really make a positive difference to both their lives, and the lives of those who may be struggling around them.”
Gemma Green Community Fundraising Officer said:
"Your support will help us to continue to provide services for people with mental health difficulties in the region and we are so proud to be a partner of the Yorkshire Marathon alongside York Mind. We are truly grateful for your support, dedication and for taking part in this event."
