Katrina Cliffe will run her first half marathon and marathon this year to support the charity that helped her have two children following a miscarriage.
Katrina Cliffe is taking on the 2019 Asda Foundation Leeds 10K, Leeds Half Marathon and Yorkshire Marathon in support of a charity whose research helped her to go on and have two children after she suffered a miscarriage.
The 35-year-old mum plans to raise funds for Tommy’s, which funds research to reduce the number of babies lost through miscarriage, premature birth and neonatal loss.
Katrina, who lives and works in Huddersfield, said: “I lost my first baby, a little boy called Casey, late into pregnancy. He would have been 15 this year, so to keep his memory alive and to prevent others going through the pain we experienced - both in the immediate aftermath and the years which have followed - we try to do what we can to enable Tommy’s to keep funding research.
“I don’t have a fundraising goal as such, there are so many amazing charities out there and I don’t want to put pressure on family and friends to donate. Even if they donate to other charities on behalf of me undertaking these challenges I’m cool with that.
"Everyone knows just how beneficial donating to Tommy’s is - their research enabled me to go on to have my two daughters.”
Katrina will break new ground when she takes part in the Leeds Half Marathon on Sunday 12th May – her longest event to date is the Yorkshire 10 Mile which she ran last year.
And she won't be resting on her laurels for long as she dives into even more unknown territory running her first-ever marathon this October.
She said: “I’ve only ever really ran to raise money for charity and in the past haven’t really trained effectively.
"A couple of years ago I joined a local running group’s couch-to-5K programme and this really helped my running journey and allowed me to enjoy the experience.
"It's going to be a year of hard work - especially with me running my first half marathon and marathon. But it is for a fantastic cause and I know that it will make me feel so proud at the end."
