Since launching in 2023, the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon has raised an outstanding £14.1 million for charity, delivering vital funding for community causes across the UK and making a significant contribution to the fight against motor neurone disease (MND).
Yesterday’s sold‑out event was a powerful reminder of what the marathon has come to represent. Thousands of runners filled the streets of Leeds, taking on the 26.2‑ and 13.1‑mile courses not only as a personal challenge, but to raise money for causes close to their hearts while celebrating the inspirational legacy of the late Rob Burrow CBE.
At the heart of the marathon is a commitment to giving back. Participants fundraise for hundreds of charities each year, often running in memory of loved ones, in support of family and friends, or to champion causes that matter deeply to them. Yesterday, thousands crossed the finish line driven by those personal motivations – individual stories that together have helped build the event’s remarkable £14.1 million fundraising total.
The race has also become a vital platform for raising awareness of MND and supporting those affected by the disease. Yesterday’s event is believed to have seen the largest participation of people connected to the MND community at a mass participation running event, underlining the marathon’s unique role in bringing visibility, solidarity and support to the cause.
More broadly, the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon has grown into a defining annual moment for the city. Runners, volunteers, spectators and charities come together in a shared show of compassion, resilience and community spirit, creating an atmosphere that transforms Leeds for the day. Yesterday’s event brought joy to the streets, united the city behind a common purpose, and provided an opportunity to show support for Kevin Sinfield and Lindsay Burrow.
As the event continues to grow, its impact reaches far beyond race day – raising funds, increasing awareness and leaving a lasting charitable legacy in Rob Burrow’s name that will continue to change lives for years to come.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All said:
“From the very beginning, the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon has been about bringing people together to make a difference. Raising £14.1 million in just a few years is a powerful reflection of the community spirit that defines this event and the commitment of everyone who takes part.
“Whether running, volunteering, cheering from the sidelines or fundraising for vital charities, people come together with a shared purpose – to support causes that truly matter while honouring Rob Burrow’s incredible legacy.”
“We are hugely grateful to every runner, supporter and volunteer who has helped make the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon what it is today, and we look forward to continuing to raise money for fantastic charities through this event and many others across the country.”
