Thousands of participants, spectators and volunteers took to the streets of Bury this morning for the return of the Bury BID 10K and Mini and Junior editions.
It was a fantastic morning in the town of Bury, centred around running, fundraising and community spirit, the day was a huge success. Thousands of participants ran for charity - many for the event’s official partner charities, others for causes close to their hearts, all with a goal to make a difference to others.
Kicking off outside The Rock Shopping Centre, runners headed out of town for the scenic Kirklees Trail, exploring the nature reserve, before looping back intothe town centre to cross the finish line and receive that well-earned medal.
Many competitive elite races took place within the 10K distance as a number of the region’s leading athletes aimed for the top of the scoreboards.
In the men’s race, Benjamin Kirkman triumphed with a new course record time of 32 minutes 5 seconds.
Luke Edwards took second place with a time of 32 minutes 11 seconds, followed by Callum Gaunt who took third place in a time of 35 minutes 27 seconds.
Charlotte Gregory was first to the finish line with an impressive time of 41:26 in the women’s race, followed by Emma Stansfield and Elizabeth Cooke clocked times of 42:25 and 43:54 respectively.
But the real winners were the many local and national charities, who will benefit from the efforts of the many people who took part raising thousands of pounds in the process and making a vital difference.
Participants were encouraged to fundraise for one of the event’s official partner charities: Backup North West, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Jigsaw and Trust House.
More than just a day of running, the day also highlighted the incredible communities in and around the Bury Borough, from running clubs, volunteer’s and schools, with all areas showing their support.
A special congratulations to all those who took part simply for the joy of running, personal achievement, or to support others - your presence and perseverance are what truly make this festival a celebration of community and inclusivity.
The Bury Mini and Junior runs followed later in the day, with children from the ages of 3 to 15 taking part in an uplifting display of energy, determination and enjoyment, highlighting the importance of encouraging participants of all ages to enjoy running.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All said: “A huge well done to all participants who joined us for today’s Bury BID 10K and Mini and Junior runs.
The enthusiasm and support from participants, volunteers and spectators ensured today was a great success enjoyed by all, and saw participants raise thousands for local charities.”
Bury BID and Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All announced a multi-year partnership, with Bury BID becoming the title sponsor of the ever-growing event and the pair continue to work with Bury Council to inspire, motivate and empower participants of all ages and abilities to take on the 10K.
Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Public Service Reform, said: “This year’s Bury Running Festival was a fantastic showcase of determination, community spirit and local pride. From seasoned athletes to first-time runners, every participant brought energy and enthusiasm that made the day unforgettable.
