The 10k event is extremely popular with runners of all abilities, from those aiming for a personal best, to those who want to take on a 10k for the first time. The run, historically organised by Age UK, will now be delivered by Run For All, the not-for-profit events company which is part of the lasting legacy of the late amateur athlete and fundraiser Jane Tomlinson CBE. The event will be organised in the same format, and runners will still be able to raise money for Age UK who will be the lead charity partner for the race.
Paul Farmer, CEO at Age UK, said:
“Age UK has been proud to deliver the Leeds Abbey Dash for nearly 40 years and experience the people of Leeds coming together for such a fantastic event. We’re really pleased to be passing on the Leeds Abbey Dash name to become part of Run For All to sustain this run into the future. Runners can still raise money to support older people and help us change the way we age by signing up to fundraise for Age UK. Every penny you raise for Age UK will help fund our friendship, support and campaigning with older people – locally, nationally and internationally.”
Mike Tomlinson, CEO at Run For All, said:
“The Abbey Dash marked the start of Jane’s running journey back in 2001 when she was training for the London Marathon and so the event has always been a staple in our running calendar ever since. It’s an honour now for Run For All to take on the baton from Age UK to continue organising this well established and much-loved event in the city.”
Councillor Jonathan Pryor, Leeds City Council’s deputy leader and executive member for economy, transport and sustainable development, said:
"The Leeds Abbey Dash is an important and long-established part of our city's sporting events calendar and Age UK deserves a huge amount of credit for the work it has done over the years to make it a success.
“I'm also really pleased that its new era is being led by Run For All, which already has a hugely positive profile in Leeds and beyond thanks to its delivery of other major events and its links with the much-missed Jane Tomlinson.
“As a keen runner myself, I look forward to seeing the Leeds Abbey Dash going from strength to strength, it’s a great PB course that will continue to raise vital funds for charity for many years to come."
