Thousands of runners and spectators descended on Scarborough this morning for the return of the McCain Yorkshire Coast 10K, 5K and Fun Runs, creating a fantastic celebration of running, fundraising and community spirit along the town's picturesque coastline.
A firm favourite in the autumn running calendar, the event once again attracted strong demand, with both the 10K and Fun Runs selling out ahead of race day.
The action began at 9.45am as 10K participants set off from Scarborough Spa, taking on a stunning coastal route around South Bay, past the harbour and around the headland into North Bay. Runners then passed the Open Air Theatre before returning to the Spa for a memorable finish overlooking the Yorkshire coast.
The 5K followed at 10.05am before the Fun Runs got underway at 11.30am, ensuring runners of all ages and abilities had the opportunity to be part of the day's celebrations.
Participants were cheered on throughout the course by enthusiastic supporters lining the route, with a vibrant atmosphere greeting runners as they crossed the finish line and celebrated their achievements with family and friends.
In the men's 10K race, Harry Butterworth set a new course record with an impressive 00:33:13. Callum James finished second in 00:34:01, while Dan Applebee completed the podium places with a time of 00:34:24.
The women's 10K race saw Sarah Platten take top spot in an impressive time of 00:38:54. Katie Alcock secured second place in 00:39:38, closely followed by Krista Keough, who finished third in 00:39:42.
Beyond the racing, the event once again highlighted the positive impact running can have on both people and communities. Participants were encouraged to raise funds for charities close to their hearts or support the event's partner charities, helping to make a difference both locally and beyond.
Established event traditions also continued, with every finisher receiving a distinctive slate medal to mark their achievement. In partnership with McCain Foods, a tree will also be planted on behalf of each participant, ensuring the event leaves a lasting environmental legacy alongside its fundraising impact.
