Chris is running this year's Altra Yorkshire Marathon to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society after his mum was diagnosed with the disease seven years ago.
Having retired to Spain in 2002, while Chris' dad is in good health, his mum is sadly at the stage where she no longer recognises Chris, or his wife and children. She now requires visits from carers throughout the day, as she is unable to look after herself independently.
"The care is excellent, but there is very little that I can do from the UK. In place of helping them directly, for the last 4 years I have raised funds for the Alzheimer's Society by running in various events."
Having turned 60 last December, Chris decided to increase his charity activities to mark the occasion, and is now taking part in 3 fundraising challenges this year.
Already taking part in a tandem skydive earlier in August, where he dropped from a height of 15,000ft at the Cornish Parachute Club, Chris will also be taking part in the Great North Run with his son Sidd in September, but by far his most difficult challenge will be the Yorkshire Marathon in October.
"I have chosen that event to be my first marathon because I know York quite well, and it has been highly recommended to me...It also starts and finishes in Heslington, where my best mate and his family live. This means that I can roll out of bed and take the 5 minute walk to the start line, and then do the same in reverse after a pub lunch!"
