Dave is taking on the Coventry Half Marathon this April in memory of his mum, Marcia, who he sadly lost to stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2022, just eight weeks after her diagnosis.
Having been in care from the age of seven, Dave only began to build a relationship with his mum when he turned 18. Now, as he approaches a significant milestone, the loss feels especially poignant.
“This year I turn 30 – a milestone I would have loved my mum to have been here for,” he said.
But the Coventry Half Marathon is just one part of a much bigger challenge. To mark his 30th birthday, Dave has set himself the goal of completing at least 30km of activity every month throughout 2026, combining running, walking and cycling.
He wasted no time getting started. Within the first 15 days of January, Dave had already reached his monthly target, going on to complete an impressive 66.7km by the end of the month. With less than a month to go until the Coventry Half Marathon, he has already logged a remarkable 228.27km.
“I can’t wait to put on my Cancer Research UK running vest and run through the streets of Coventry on 19 April, adding even more kilometres to my year-long challenge,” Dave said.
Throughout the year, Dave will be raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK, hoping his efforts will help support people like his mum in the future.
