Ian will be running the Yorkshire Coast 10K this October in memory of his good friend and running buddy Nick, who sadly died from cancer earlier this year.
The pair met through Morris dancing at the Yorkshire Coast Morris, and quickly became fast friends.
"Nick was a wonderful friend, support, and running buddy during the few months I lived in Scarborough last year after my marriage broke up."
Nick and Ian used to run the exact route which the 10K follows along the seafront, stopping at the Tea Pot halfway for a cup of tea.
"He used to say that, even though he was slower than his peers when he was younger, he was the one that kept up the running as others fell by the wayside with failing knees and other runner problems!"
He leaves behind his wife and fellow Morris dancer Liz, who will also be running the Yorkshire Coast 10K in memory of Nick, along with her two sisters Di and Val.
Known as a kind and generous man, Nick had a career in the social sector before dedicating himself to his extensive voluntary work in scouting and the Duke of Edinburgh award.
"He was so welcoming and open about sharing the ups and downs of his life with me."
Nick unfortunately passed away at the age of 67, only 5 weeks after discovering his cancer.
"He and our Morris team will be cheering Liz, Di, Val, and myself on as we run in Nick's memory."
