On Sunday 19th October, a group of six friends laced up their running shoes to take on the Yorkshire Marathon RELAY, all in support of York Neighbours.
The team, brought together through their local church, wanted to make a difference for people in their community who may be feeling isolated or struggling to stay independent.
Their commitment to helping others led them to York Neighbours, a charity that resonated deeply with their shared values of compassion, connection, and community spirit.
“We found out about York Neighbours through our church and felt the charity really aligned with our values of supporting people within our community,” says Lucy, one of the runners.
“We all really enjoyed running the marathon together as a group of friends. It was a great experience knowing we were helping a local cause that means so much to us.”
The group’s incredible effort not only raised vital funds but also helped spread awareness about the importance of supporting older residents across York, ensuring they can remain independent, connected and valued members of their communities.
At York Neighbours, we’re so grateful for their dedication, teamwork and generosity. Every mile they ran helps us continue our mission to tackle loneliness, reduce isolation and support people aged 65+ across the city.
A huge thank you to Lucy and her friends for going the distance for York Neighbours, your energy and kindness make a real difference.
