Inspired by His Dad’s Strength, Carl Takes On the Sheffield Half Marathon Again
This year, Carl Buxton will be lacing up his running shoes for the Sheffield Half Marathon in honour of his dad, who he recently lost to esophagus cancer. Carl’s father was diagnosed with the disease for the second time in 2025, and in his final days he was cared for at Rotherham Hospice – a place Carl and his family now hold close to their hearts.
Carl describes the hospice as “absolutely amazing”, sharing how “the staff there made my dad’s final days as comfortable as possible, and we will always be very grateful for this.”
Their compassion and care have inspired Carl to take on this challenge and raise as much money as he can for the hospice, believing it “deserves every penny.”
Reflecting on his dad’s strength, Carl said, “He went through all this with a smile on his face and never let it get him down.”
That positivity has motivated Carl to dust off his running gear and return to the Sheffield Half – a race he last attempted 11 years ago – a determined to make this one count.
Carl hopes that by sharing his story and running in his dad’s memory, he can give something back to the hospice that supported his family when they needed it most.
