Leann ran the Sheffield Half Marathon this March in memory of her mum, Brenda, who was admitted as a patient to St Luke's after her cancer diagnosis, one of the partner charities for our event.
St Luke's works hard to provide the best palliative care for those with terminal illnesses in and around Sheffield.
Leann admits that the family knew virtually nothing about the work of the hospice, but in the seven weeks that Brenda was a patient in St Luke's In Patient Centre after her pain worsened, she discovered a world of support she had no idea existed.
"It was getting too much for her at home, and it was such a relief when we heard from St Luke's, and we knew we were not on our own, that we had back up."
That's why she made a promise to her mum that she would raise funds for the hospice by participating in the Sheffield Half Marathon.
The family appreciated not only the treatment they gave her mum in her final days, but also the support they offered the family.
"Nothing was too much trouble, everything was just perfect, and they could not have been nicer - it was like a comfort blanket for us."
"Now we have good memories, lovely memories which St Luke's gave us, and you feel as though you have made friends with everybody."
Leann ran the Half Marathon as part of the St Luke's runners team; we are sure that her mum would be proud of such an impressive feat!
