Will Howell, devoted father of three, husband, and former gym-goer known for his energy, laughter, and love of the dance floor, is sharing his inspiring story of resilience in the face of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS).
With his symptoms beginning in 2018, Will was diagnosed in 2021, and has since progressed rapidly. He now requires a wheelchair and 24/7 care.
However, despite the physical decline, his determination to live a joyful and purpose-filled life remains unwavering.
"The journey has been fast-moving. They cycle of deterioration and adjustment has been relentless - physically, emotionally, and mentally. But I try to keep a positive mindset. I cry, I accept, and then I move forward."
Will's story is not only about loss and adaption, but about finding meaning and joy in life's smallest moments. Whether it's chatting to a stranger, enjoying a coffee with friends, or listening to a favourite song, he always finds a way to bring light into even the darkest days.
"Even in difficult circumstances, I try to put people at ease, make them laugh, and find fun where I can."
As part of his mission to raise awareness and support others on their MS journey, Will is taking on the York 10K in August, being pushed by a close friend in an adapted wheelchair. He is using the challenge to fundraise for MS-UK, a charity that has been a vital source of support for many living with MS.
"I'm so excited to cross that finish line - big smile on my face, joy in my heart. This is for everyone who's facing MS, or another life-altering condition. You're not alone."
Will encourages others affected by MS to reach out to the support available through MS-UK and similar organisations.
One of his favourite quotes captures his outlook:
"Just because I could do it yesterday doesn't mean I can do it today, but just because I can't do it today doesn't mean I can't do it tomorrow"
