This year, Paul will be running the McCain Yorkshire Coast 10K after receiving the news that he is in remission from prostate cancer.
Paul started running at the age of 50, and his passion only grew from there, taking him around the country and introducing him to like-minded people. He started slowly with park runs, but has now ticked off his 250th, including one in New Zealand, and has gone on to do much longer distances including several marathons!
The running community is a huge part of Paul’s life – as a longstanding member of the Methley Striders he still wears their colours with pride, as well as being part of Recovery Runners, who help people with addictions through Sunday morning running sessions.
“The friends that you meet at these events are friends for life and it’s extra special raising money for various charities.”
In May 2024, Paul was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but he kept up running throughout.
“My 1st race after that was the York 10K, I struggled emotionally but still managed a respectable time of 55mins.”
This year, Paul received the fantastic news that he was in remission and shortly afterwards, completed the 2025 Arla Protein York 10K in a course PB of 49.59mins!
“I am very proud of myself especially after everything I have gone through and aged 61.”
This year was a special race for Paul, and now he has set his sights on many more running challenges.
“I am looking forward to some great Run For All events later in the year including one of my favourites the Yorkshire Coast 10K.”
