Robbie will be taking on his first ever marathon next year to mark 10 years since he lost his Mum. Robbie will be running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon to honour his mother, who was an avid runner and completed 10 marathons herself.
In January 2016, Robbie’s mum was diagnosed with late-stage Mesothelioma, a type of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. The diagnosis came as a massive shock to the whole family, but her strength and positivity throughout was truly inspirational.
“Mum passed away on 16th August 2016, and in those 8-months, we made some amazing memories that will stay will me forever.
“The strength she showed throughout her 8-month battle with this horrible disease was incredible, she never stopped laughing, having fun and doing the things she enjoyed.”
Robbie will be running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon to raise money for Mesothelioma UK, who provide vital support services to patients and families affected, as well as working to prevent future cases.
“It’s a fantastic charity who helped mum so much, from giving advice on how to apply for financial support, to getting access to clinical trials.”
“It means so much to be able to give something back in memory of mum.”
