This morning, the heart of Middlesbrough’s Centre Square was filled with thousands of runners gathering on the start line for two of the region's flagship running events, Thirteen Middlesbrough 10K and 3K.
It was an unforgettable day for everyone involved. The event was fueled by a vibrant atmosphere, with hundreds of spectators lining the streets to cheer on members of their family and friends, along with volunteers supporting runners every step of the way.
Organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, the UK’s largest not-for-profit sporting events company and in partnership with Thirteen, the event has become a major highlight in the town’s running calendar. At 09:00AM, the 10K set off from Centre Square, sparking an electric atmosphere for all those involved.
Runners made their way past some of the town's most iconic landmarks, including Teesside University, Albert Park, the Dorman Museum, Middlesbrough College, and Riverside Stadium, before returning to Centre Square. Huge smiles broke out on the faces of participants as they crossed the finish line, celebrating their incredible achievement.
Whilst participants of all abilities, ages and backgrounds celebrated today, there were also a number of competitive elite racers who finished the race first.
This year's regions leading athletes were immensely impressive. In the men’s race, Joseph Wilson was first to the finish line with an impressive time of 00:30:57. He was then followed by runner up Max Creasey 00:31:24 coming in second, and Adam Theaker in third with a time of 00:31:40.
For the women, Jennifer Berry triumphed with a time of 00:37:48, with Ruth Cole taking second place with a time of 00:38:07, and with a time of 00:38:43, Tracey Breedon claimed third place.
But fundraising is always at the heart of Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All race days. It would not have been a truly successful event without the local and regional charities, as the impressive efforts of the participants raised tens of thousands of pounds for a multitude of good causes.
Participants were encouraged to fundraise for a chosen charity, or one of the event’s partner charities; the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Great North Air Ambulance Service, Home Smart Teesside, Louies Trust, MSP, Phys Cap and The Teesside Family Foundation.
The Thirteen Middlesbrough 3K followed shortly after the 10K and kicked off at 11:15AM also at Centre Square.
Open to children aged 3 and over, the 3k welcomed runners of all ages and abilities. After crossing the finish line, all participants were rewarded with a well-earned bespoke medal, a goody bag filled with treats and a finishers' t-shirt to wear with pride, so keep an eye out for them around Middlesbrough!
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All, reflecting on the day, said: “Congratulations and a massive thank you to every single participant who joined us for today’s 10K and 3K. The atmosphere has been incredible and a true celebration of running, fundraising and community spirit for all ages and abilities.
The energy from participants, the cheers from spectators and the amazing support from title sponsor Thirteen Housing Group, the rest of the event sponsors, partners and volunteers made this event a great success.”
