South Yorkshire’s biggest half marathon challenge returns on Sunday 29 March, and anticipation is already building. The much‑loved event is set to welcome thousands of runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities as they take on one of the region’s most scenic and rewarding routes.
Organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, the Sheffield Half Marathon has become a standout fixture in the UK running calendar, celebrated for its atmosphere, community spirit and spectacular course.
This year’s route once again highlights the very best of Sheffield. Participants will set off from the city’s famous Arundel Gate at 9:30am before heading along the vibrant Ecclesall Road. From there, the challenge builds as runners head out towards the breathtaking Peak District, tackling sweeping hills and enjoying panoramic views. At mile nine, the route loops back via Ecclesall Road South for a fast, lively final stretch, finishing with a triumphant return to Arundel Gate.
Adding an extra layer of excitement, the event’s unique Triple Test returns for 2026. Competitors can take on a timed hill climb, test their speed in a downhill 10K section, and compete for the overall half marathon title.
As ever, runners can expect outstanding support across the city. Sheffield’s crowds are renowned for lining the streets in full force, creating an atmosphere that powers participants from start to finish. All finishers will be rewarded with a medal, post-race refreshments and a goody bag to celebrate their achievement.
The event is once again expected to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charities across the region. Participants are encouraged to fundraise for a cause close to them or support one of the event’s partner charities: Element Society, Framework, Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Paces, Rain Rescue, Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, Sheffield Futures, St Luke’s, We Are Haven and Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.
Places are still available, and people of all abilities are encouraged to get involved and be part of one of South Yorkshire’s most inspiring running events.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All, commented: ‘The Sheffield Half Marathon has become a key date in the diary for runners from across Yorkshire and beyond, and we’re thrilled to be welcoming everyone back this year.
‘The route offers a brilliant mix of challenge and excitement – from gliding past iconic city‑centre landmarks to climbing the hills that open out into stunning Peak District views – all backed by incredible support along the way.
‘It’s fantastic to see so many people already signed up, whether they’re supporting a charity close to their heart or chasing a personal milestone. We’re wishing the very best of luck to everyone taking part, and we’d encourage anyone still considering it to get involved and secure their place.’
