South Yorkshire’s biggest half marathon returned to the city’s streets this morning, with event organisers Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All welcoming thousands of runners across the Sheffield Half Marathon finish line.
The city was buzzing with energy from the early hours, as participants of all ages and abilities took on the challenging but rewarding 13.1‑mile course. Crowds were treated to an array of fancy dress, friendly rivalry and inspirational fundraising stories, showcasing the best of Sheffield’s community spirit.
Runners set off from Arundel Gate and made their way through the city centre and along Ecclesall Road. The challenge intensified as the route climbed towards the edge of the Peak District, where participants were rewarded with sweeping hills and spectacular views. At mile nine, the course looped back for a fast, atmospheric final stretch down Ecclesall Road South before returning triumphantly to Arundel Gate.
Samuel Moakes was first to break the tape finishing the 13.1 mile course in 01:06:57, followed by Daniel Howarth in 01:07:30 and Jack Martin in 01:10:26, placing third.
In the women’s field Claire Frankland claimed victory in 01:18:55, ahead of Charlotte Slack in 01:21:39 with Gemma Luckett securing third place in 01:24:04.
Adding extra excitement to race day was the event’s renowned Triple Challenge, offering runners multiple chances to secure a win. As part of the challenge, participants tackled a timed hill climb and a fast, competitive downhill 10k section.
Beyond the elite field, the event celebrated thousands of personal goals, journeys and charity challenges. Every finisher was rewarded with a packed goody bag, refreshments and a well‑earned medal to mark their achievement.
Once again, the event helped raise thousands of pounds for charities across the region and beyond, including partner charities Element Society, Framework, Jane Tomlinson Appeal, PACES, Rain Rescue, Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, Sheffield Futures, St Luke’s, We Are Haven and Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All, said: “It’s always a pleasure to return to Sheffield for South Yorkshire’s biggest half marathon, and today was no exception. The atmosphere was incredible – thousands of runners and supporters came together to create a memorable day for the city.
“A huge well done to everyone who took part, whether you were chasing a personal best, running for a cause close to your heart, or simply embracing the challenge. Every participant and every supporter helped make this event such a success.
“We’re already excited to be back in Sheffield for the 10K in September, and we’d encourage anyone thinking about setting themselves a goal to get involved. Entries for the 2027 Sheffield Half Marathon are also now open, and we’d love to see even more people on the start line next year.”
