Amy is running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon this May in memory of her mum who sadly passed away a few years ago after her battle with MND.
When her health began to decline, Amy's mum went through a year of doctor's appointments in which they ruled out various diagnosis, but to no avail. It was in 2020 when we were entering the pandemic that she was diagnosed with MND.
The family was shocked - they didn't know anything about the disease. After the diagnosis, Amy started following the Burrow family's story:
"It made a huge difference to me and my family through our journey."
Amy also credits her mum's MND consultant and team for supporting the family through their journey with the disease, all the while COVID restrictions made the time even more difficult.
Amy became her mum's full-time carer, while the rest of the family made a rota system, along with the NHS and private carers to support her in her declining health as the disease rapidly progressed until she passed away.
"I would like to say a huge thank you to our MND team, and NHS and private carers for the care they provided my mom and family."
"I hope that, by sharing my story of people looking after people, showing empathy, talking and taking care of each other, that this will help share some positivity to keep pushing forwards and fight through any battle we are given in life. And, most importantly, give back, stand proud, and help raise money and awareness so that other families receive the best support they possibly can."
