Danielle and her partner will be taking on the Ipswich Half Marathon this September to raise money for Blood Cancer UK, after losing her incredible Mum to a rare type of blood cancer.
Danielle’s Mum, Christine, was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis in 2015, and initially given just 18 months to live, but due to advances in medical research, was given a trial drug which enabled her to enjoy another 10 years.
Christine passed away on the 8th April 2025, at home with Danielle and her family by her side.
“She was my best friend, I spoke to her every single day without fail, and I just wholeheartedly loved her.”
“I am so grateful for the extra 10 years that we had with her – which was why I decided to sign up for the half marathon.”
Danielle also has Multiple Sclerosis, so running long distances is an exceptional challenge. Diagnosed in 2019, Danielle’s mum Christine was her rock throughout, always with a positive outlook in life which was infectious and helped her cope with her diagnosis.
"She kept me going on my darkest days and was there for me through it all.”
Danielle has decided to fundraise for Blood Cancer UK, so that other families hopefully don’t have to have the same experience they did.
“I decided to raise money for Blood Cancer UK, as they help to raise vital funding for research going into blood cancers, which helps with discovering new treatments.”
"I am devastated to have lost my mum, but I really hope that our fundraising can help to make sure other families do not lose their loved ones too.”
