David will be taking on the Sheffield 10k this September for the third time, to continue his son, Oliver’s legacy.
Oliver was diagnosed with a brain tumour on the 4th September 2020, aged just 6, and underwent countless rounds of radiotherapy and high dose chemotherapy.
“He never stopped smiling, even on the hardest days. He fought his cancer with such positivity and never let it get him down.”
From the start, Oliver wanted to raise money to say thank you for the help he was receiving, and to help others like him. Lego was his passion, and that helped him to focus on something other than all the procedures he had to endure.
Oliver rang the bell in July, but unfortunately his brain tumour returned, and Oliver passed away on the 1st of February 2023 aged 8.
“He left behind memories I will forever be grateful for. I miss him so much, but I made a promise to him to keep his legacy alive.”
Team Oliver Howe has since raised over £100,000 in his memory for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, and on the 2nd anniversary of his death, a new memory meadow fundraising page was created, to tell everyone about Oliver's life and with a new £100,000 target.
Just 18 months in, and they are already a quarter of the way to achieving this!
“I will spend the rest of my life continuing Oliver’s legacy and making sure everyone I meet knows just how amazing Oliver was.”
