Fiona is running the York 10K this August in memory of her ex-police sergeant Graham Cheyne, who sadly passed away due to a rare form of leukaemia.
Having been a runner for 12 years, it all started on one fated Friday night, when Fiona would take her children to track. Although she would usually sit on her phone, one week she was inspired by a group of mums who were running, and decided to join in.
"The following week, I took my battered trainers and jogged/ walked around the track - I was terrible, could hardly run at all, but I enjoyed the way I felt as I was driving home. I started to run every Friday and gradually build up, running a bit further every week. I remember the joy I felt when I managed to fully run around the track without stopping! It was an overwhelming feeling, both physically and mentally."
It was Fiona's sister-in-law who persuaded her to run the York 10K for the first time.
"The night before the race, I dreamt that I got to the racecourse and had forgotten my trainers!"
But despite her nerves, she managed to finish the course in an impressive 54 minutes.
Fiona continues to participate in the York 10K each opportunity she gets, each time running with Cheyney's name on her number, as he was her biggest inspiration during her time working as a police officer.
"I am running in memory of Cheyney and all the people I have known who are no longer with us."
