Lauren is running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in May in honour of her older brother, Ben.
Laura’s brother Ben passed away unexpectedly in March 2023, after struggling for a number of years with pain in his back and leg and undergoing multiple complex surgeries.
Ben lived his entire life for his 8-year-old son, and despite the health difficulties he faced, he loved spending as much time with him as he could.
“Nothing would stop him from joining his son and the other children in play mazes, taking him out to the York Train Station to watch the trains, and enjoying days together at the Railway Museum.
“Ben was always eager to embrace his son’s hobbies as if they were his own, he was a big kid, and they were inseparable.”
Ben’s other great love in his life was rugby, and he followed Rob Burrow’s MND journey closely, and greatly admired Rob and Kevin.
“Ben ran a 10K race for cancer research a few years before he died, and I know that his love for Rob and Kevin would have led him to run this marathon too.”
Ben is what initially led Lauren to running, and helped her channel her feelings into something positive, and she completed the 2024 London Landmarks Half Marathon in his honour.
“This marathon is the next step in my running journey, and I plan to use every mile to think about Ben and what he meant to me, and how he still teaches me things and motivates me even though he is gone.”
Lauren will be running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon to raise funds for Leeds Hospital Charity in Ben's memory. You can support her fundraising efforts below:
