Lauren is running the 2026 Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon to raise money for Crohn's & Colitis UK after her own 10 year-long struggle with Crohn's disease.
Although her issues started in 2014, Lauren didn't get diagnosed with Crohn's disease until 2017 during her second year at university. The impact of the disease was immense, as Lauren struggled maintaining remission, and was left unable to walk due to the effects of the disease itself, as well as the medications used to treat it on multiple occasions.
"Crohn's has had a colossal impact on my life in every way possible with a list as long as my arm of horrendous symptoms and medication side effects to survive. If it weren't for the insurmountable support from my friends and family, I simply wouldn't be where I am today - very happy and well into remission."
So, Lauren is running the Leeds Marathon for those who can't run it themselves, who still face the challenges that she managed to overcome.
"During the challenges I have faced over the last decade, I felt like I didn't have a choice in facing them, and to be in a position where my body can be tested in this way is a testament to how far I've come, and it will be a huge personal achievement."
While both the training and the race itself will be a massive challenge for Lauren, it is one that she chooses to face.
That's why Lauren is raising money for Crohn's & Colitis UK, a charity which is very close to her heart:
"I remember becoming a member back in 2017 and not feeling so alone in my journey that was only just beginning."
The organisation works hard to provide invaluable information and support to not only sufferers, but also family, friends, and employers. By fundraising for Crohn's & Colitis UK, it helps to provide help to those like Lauren, allowing them to seek the necessary help and support.
"It's a privilege and a blessing to be healthy and to run for a spectacular cause and keep spreading awareness."
