After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s almost 18 months ago, Terry is running the York 10K in August, despite both his illness and his apparent hatred of running.
Running for four years, Terry is part of the Harrogate Stray Runners, whom he thanks for their support through his diagnosis.
“Being part of a group inspires me to be the very best I can and I can say, without fear of contradiction, the group I am proud to be part of inspires me beyond imagination.”
Now a Run Leader of the group, he runs two 5Ks a week, as he has been advised to do as much exercise as possible while he can.
“I know that I will not be able to run forever, as my condition will steadily get worse, but whilst I can, I will continue to exercise as much as possible, including walking football that I currently play.”
This is not Terry’s only race: he was captain of a relay team in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, stating that “it was a fantastic experience and an honour to be part of such a prestigious event”. He also hopes to participate in the Great North Run next year.
“If I was asked what I would say to someone who was thinking about either getting back into running or starting the journey I would say do it as you will surprise yourself at what you can achieve.”
As the Harrogate Stray Runners mantra says,
‘FINISH LINE NOT FINISH TIME’
