Tom is joining us at the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon this May as part of a year-long challenge, during which he will undertake twelve marathons.
While he has always enjoyed running, Tom never expected to be running twelve marathons in as many months. But, his family also didn't expect the devastating news that they would receive in September of 2025 - his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.
"As a young family with two young children, normality disappeared. Our days quickly became filled with hospital appointments, difficult conversations with our children and family, and hours of googling trying to work out why this had happened and whether we could have done anything differently."
However, Tom's wife has faced her diagnosis with strength, resilience, and a positivity that continues to amaze friends and family.
"Even on the hardest days, she shows up for our children, showing everyone her courage and determination to keep going. Watching her through this journey has been inspiring."
The Christie has been central to her treatment, providing exceptional care, from outstanding clinical expertise to genuine compassion. The Christie doesn't just treat cancer; it supports families, offers reassurance, and provides hope when it is needed most.
"I will always be grateful for their kindness and unwavering support."
Tom says that running is his way of giving back to the trust:
"This challenge isn't about personal bests - it's about giving back to a charity that has supported my family and I following a moment that changed everything."
"Every mile I run is for my wife, our children, and everyone whose life has been affected by cancer."
