Freja and Matt are running the 2026 Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. The brother and sister are running in memory of their grandad Alan, who they lost in 2024.
"We lost Grandad after a short but incredibly courageous battle with a brain tumour, and whilst he is still incredibly missed, we are choosing to honour his memory by doing something positive and powerful in his name."
The family describes him as a man of remarkable strength, grit, and determination:
"He faced each day with dignity, showing us all what true resilience looks like. His unwavering spirit, sense of humour, and love for his family never faded. We were - and still are - so incredibly proud of him."
Running the Leeds Marathon is their way of fighting back for both their grandad, and everyone else affected by the devastating disease.
"His bravery fuels our motivation every single step of the way."
And, while the training and preparation will be a feat, the struggle they face is nothing compared to what he endured.
"We know he'll be with us in spirit, cheering us on from above. And we know he'd be proud - not only of us running, but of the cause we're running for. If our efforts can raise even a small amount of money to support vital research, to give families more time, more hope, and one day - a cure - then every mile will be worth it."
