Carl, aged 65, is running the Bury 10K this September after winning his battle with prostate cancer.
Diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer 18 months ago, Carl is now 6 months in remission after 12 months of treatment, including 20 sessions of radiotherapy.
While in treatment, Carl was determined to continue training for the 2024 Bury 10K, but eventually decided not to compete, as it took place only 3 weeks after his final radiotherapy session.
However, on the day of the event, Carl asked the organisers if he could compete, and they obliged.
"It was the best sporting achievement I have every experienced."
Carl has now made it his goal to run the Bury 10K every year until he is 70 years-old, with this year being his 5th time partaking in the race.
Alongside his running, as well as his competitive walking football training, Carl works part-time delivering medications to care homes and local residents.
Having previously raised money for various charities, such as for Pulmonary Fibrosis, Prostate cancer, and Bury Hospice, he is running to raise money for Cancer Research in this year's race. Carl is aiming to raise £700, and has currently raised £650 through his efforts.
