For Hilary, this won't be her first time attempting the Leeds Marathon. Taking part in the first ever Rob Burrow Marathon with her husband Bob and eldest son Graeme waiting for her at the stadium, she definitely thought it would be her last.
"I did finish eventually, and vowed never again! That hill was brutal, but I had done the job and raised some money for the MNDA."
Never did Hilary think that, just a few years later, the family would be fighting their own battle with Motor Neurone Disease. Her husband Bob was recently diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), the most common form of MND.
"We are just at the start of our MND journey, navigating through appointments, information, and of course our emotions."
But through it all, her friends from Scarborough Athletics Club have support Hilary and her family, with some members taking part in the race alongside Hilary to raise funds for the MNDA.
"We will all be there for Bob and do our bit to give hope to everyone who are unfortunate enough to be given this diagnosis."
Hilary and many others will be running for those who work to find a cure, for the doctors and nurses who provide help and guidance, and the support groups which help families like Hilary and Bob's through this difficult journey.
"We will be there to help in our own way. We will be strong. We do it for Bob. We do it for the MNDA."
